WHAT IS LEUKEMIA?
MISSION STATEMENT
Provide a range of support to families in Central Florida with children (age infant to 17) receiving treatment for all types of leukemia.
Brittany’s Wish is a non-profit 501( c )( 3 ) organization inspired by Brittany Marie. We are dedicated to bringing help in the toughest of times and to offer encouragement and hope to those in the midst of a horrible battle. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it can devastate a family with fear and uncertainty. The words “your child has cancer” begins an emotional roller coaster. Brittany’s Wish is standing in the gap by helping ease the burden while spreading awareness.
OUR GOAL
To embrace our families with hope, love, prayer and encouragement. We want our families to know that we are there for them. Although, we can’t move mountains or cure the disease we can show we care and lend a helping hand allowing parents to focus on their precious child and the journey ahead of them.
Brittany’s Wish is working hard to increase our outreach to more families by adding all childhood cancer diagnoses to our range of support. Each day 46 children are diagnosed with cancer. On the average, 1 in every 4 elementary schools has a child with cancer.
Leukemia is a form of cancer that begins in the bone marrow where blood is made. The bone marrow is the spongy material inside your bones where blood cells are produced and mature. Although the exact cause is unknown, something happens to make the young new cells multiply at a rapid pace. These abnormal cells are called leukemic blasts. They continue to multiply out of control taking up all the space and pushing out the normal healthy cells.
Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and teens, accounting for almost 1 out of 3 cancers.
